Vinyl Windows to Black

A study from the words of our owner, Scott Specker.

My wife’s best friend is a cheer mom. I don’t hold it against her.  She’s quite “normal” given the negative stereotype and stories we have heard over the years about the competitive nature of the cheer squads in our area.  Understand that the two larger high schools in my area are both in the running for state championships each year. Their travel teams all compete with “worlds” teams. It is amazing to watch what these competitive athletic girls can do. Granted I’ve only attended one event in my life but my wife’s friend is always willing to share with me a recent video of her daughter's amazing jumps, twirls and twists.  This type of talent doesn’t just happen. The girls and moms are extremely dedicated to their craft.  It takes years to develop and thousands of dollars in private training.  Like all elite athletes their diets are strict, the practice hours are grueling, the injuries are real and it is not for the fair weathered athlete.

So when the phone call came in that another cheer mom would like her house painted we paused.  We paused because we knew this was going to be a demanding customer.  We can handle most as we have actually done NBA stars homes that had out of town interior decorators managing their renovation. It needs to be done right.

However, in this instance the project never took off because the request was not what was best for the customer.  What does that mean?  The request was to paint all of their white vinyl windows black.  The vinyl windows were currently factory white and had never been painted.  Further, her current quote was only for one coat of paint. We needed to prime the windows since she changed the scope after she agreed to our price.  The black (or B) added to the paint reacts negatively to Vinyl.  It will bubble with the high heat of Georgia and not adhere.  In fact there can’t be any B in the paint that is applied to a white vinyl window.

After repeated calls, and frankly threats, we sent back the deposit to the customer and advised her to find someone else. We told her we would paint her windows black but we would not warranty the work and it would cost more money.  If it bubbles (which it will do) we will not come back and fix it.  We even asked her to sign something agreeing that she is doing the wrong thing on her house and it is not our fault in the future.

Needless to say the cheer mom did not hire us and now won’t say hello to me at games but I know I did right by her house and her wallet.  We don’t always win the popularity contest, but I assure you we will do right by your home and advise you as if it were our own home.
