Tannins in Cedar Siding

A study from the words of our owner, Scott Specker.

One of my friends in an adjacent neighborhood called and said her client's mother was having problems with one of our competitors. This particular competitor has taken measures to trash my good reputation all over town, to customers, painters, and employees.  I have never met this competitor, never seen them at any charitable event but he still calls my existing painters almost weekly to try and steal them.  It’s a rough business and it is what it is.

Our goal is always to provide the best solution to our customers or potential customers.  This customer was actually delighted to receive my call and advice.  I spent at least an hour with her on the phone and reviewed her project.  I reviewed the stain applied, saw the photos and reviewed with my very experienced team. Our conclusion was that the Cedar aboard were experiencing tannin bleeding through.  The fix is to prime those boards and apply more stain.  Apparently our competitor wasn’t even willing to meet with their own customer or pro dive a solution,

I proactively wrote up what needed to be done and sent it along.  Staining old cedar is tricky to say the least.  It is usually found on old lake homes around Lake Lanier in Cumming, Buford, Flowery Branch, and Gainesville areas.  The trend now is to paint it white or a version of white.  It can look beautiful but the proper thing to do is probably to replace it.  A full new siding job will do wonders for the heat and AC on an old home with Cedar Siding.  If you do decide to stain it, know that it is going to take 3-4 coats to get a uniform finish.

If you hire the right company we will detail the procedures and proper stain to use.  We will be accountable and provide the best solution possible within your budget.
